Virginia Beach Super Girl Surf Festival

Virginia Beach, Virginia · September 5–7, 2026 · WSL QS 4,000

The Super Girl series’ East Coast stop brought the same QS 4,000 field back to Virginia Beach two weeks after Oceanside and one week after the Virginia Beach Pro, and this time the First Coast did not get out of the early rounds. Atlantic Beach’s Lanea Mons finished equal 25th, ending a run of three straight quarterfinal or better results — equal 5th at Oceanside, equal 9th at the Virginia Beach Pro and the Pro Junior win at Atlantic Park. She was not alone: Talia Swindal, who had won the Virginia Beach Pro eight days earlier, shared that equal 25th. Also from Atlantic Beach, Emerson Clark was surfing her first WSL Qualifying Series event — the company she had earned a week earlier at the ECSC, where she won Open Womens Shortboard against the full open field — and finished equal 41st. Florida’s best day belonged to the stretch just south: Daytona Beach’s Alana Lopez reached equal 5th, her third straight result inside the top 20, and New Smyrna Beach’s Auburn Hilley took equal 7th. San Clemente’s Eden Walla won the event ahead of Reid Van Wagoner, with Ella McCaffray third and Sara Freyre fourth. The series reaches the Jacksonville Beach Pier on November 7–8.

WRV Outer Banks Pro

Jennette’s Pier, Nags Head, North Carolina · September 3–6, 2026 · WSL QS 2,000, men’s

Four First Coast men entered at Jennette’s Pier over Labor Day weekend, and the closest call came first. Neptune Beach’s Tucker Demsey surfed Heat 11 of Thursday’s Round of 88 and finished third with a 7.40 — 0.20 behind Beckham McCart’s 7.60 for the second advancing spot, in a heat won by San Clemente’s Carson Carr. Fernandina Beach’s Noah Poteat got through, taking second in Heat 4 with a 6.00 behind the Outer Banks’ Taylor Meekins. Vilano Beach’s Rory Reep drew Heat 5 and finished third with a 6.55, behind Dylan Young and Daytona Beach’s Luke Lopez — the surfer who would go furthest of any Floridian all weekend. Two lay days followed, and the event ran everything from the Round of 64 down on Sunday. Poteat drew Heat 6 there and went out fourth with a 6.95, in a heat won by Will Deane of the Outer Banks. St. Augustine’s Carl Burger, seeded straight into the Round of 64, surfed the second heat of the morning and finished third with an 8.25, behind Finland’s Eeli Timperi and San Clemente’s Luke Wyler — a heat that also ended Dane Costa’s weekend. Flagler Beach’s Ryan Huckabee, who surfed this event in 2025, was not in the 2026 draw. Lopez, meanwhile, won his way through the Round of 64 and the Round of 32 before going out in the quarterfinals, the best Florida result of the event. Canada’s Wheeler Hasburgh won the event over Virginia Beach’s Blayr Barton, with Timperi third and Ventura’s Jabe Swierkocki fourth.

The event ran a Round of 88 on Thursday, September 3, seeded surfers entering at the Round of 64; two lay days followed and the remaining rounds ran in a single day on Sunday, September 6. Atlantic Park Surf Pro Junior

Atlantic Park Surf, Virginia Beach, Virginia · August 31, 2026 · WSL North America Pro Junior, 1,000 points · third and final stop of the series

The third and final stop of the World Surf League’s North America Pro Junior series ran in a single day at Atlantic Park Surf, the Wavegarden Cove in Virginia Beach — by the venue’s account the first WSL North America event held in a surf lagoon. Atlantic Beach’s Lanea Mons won the women’s division, closing the final with a 9.17 and an 8.93 for an 18.10 two-wave total — the highest heat score of the entire women’s event, above the 17.80 that topped the quarterfinals and the 16.86 that topped the semis. She won by 1.24 over Reid Van Wagoner, who had placed equal third at the Virginia Beach Pro. Daytona Beach’s Alana Lopez took third with a 14.94, and Talia Swindal — who won that Virginia Beach Pro — finished fourth. The Pro Junior draw was largely the same field: every finalist in both divisions appears on the Virginia Beach Pro placing sheet, an event that had wrapped the day before. On the men’s side St. Augustine’s Benji Lange — the one semifinalist who had not surfed the Virginia Beach Pro — reached the semifinals and went out fourth in his heat for an equal fifth, in a final won by Panama’s Teo Gale Grani, whose 18.03 held off Cose Stoyanoff’s 17.63 by 0.40. Will Deane was third and Beckham McCart fourth.

Virginia Beach Pro

Virginia Beach, Virginia · August 25–30, 2026 · WSL QS 4,000, run within the Coastal Edge ECSC

The World Surf League Qualifying Series event inside the ECSC drew seven surfers from the First Coast and the stretch of coast just south of it. Atlantic Beach’s Lanea Mons made the quarterfinals for an equal-9th finish worth 1,260 points and $750, moving her one spot to No. 11 in North America — her second straight quarterfinal after Oceanside. Daytona Beach’s Alana Lopez matched that equal 9th and slipped four places to No. 9. On the men’s side, St. Augustine’s Carl Burger went furthest, reaching equal 17th for 640 points and $350 and climbing 25 places to No. 41. Neptune Beach’s Tucker Demsey finished equal 33rd, and Fernandina Beach’s Noah Poteat equal 49th — a result that moved Poteat up 45 spots. Flagler Beach’s Ryan Huckabee, the highest-ranked man in the group at No. 11, also went out in equal 49th. Talia Swindal and Kyan Yang won the event.

Coastal Edge ECSC

Virginia Beach, Virginia · August 25–30, 2026 · 64th Annual Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championship

Four First Coast surfers made the trip to the East Coast’s oldest running surf contest, and three of them reached a podium. These are the ECSC’s own divisions; the WSL Qualifying Series event that ran alongside them is listed above. Atlantic Beach’s Emerson Clark entered five divisions and finished top seven in every one, winning Girls 14 & Under with a 10.53 two-wave total Sunday morning and winning Open Womens Shortboard against the full open field. Neptune Beach’s Tucker Demsey was runner-up in the Open Mens Shortboard, losing Thursday’s final to Barbados’ Tommaso Layson, who posted a 15.10 and won by four points; Demsey also placed equal fifth in the Pete Smith Memorial Mens Pro Shortboard, the event’s $2,000 division, where a WSL wildcard into the round of 64 was on the line. Fernandina Beach’s Noah Poteat finished equal 13th in that same division, and Maggie Demsey, also of Neptune Beach, took fourth in the Womens Pro Shortboard.

Matton Bain won the Pete Smith Memorial Mens Pro Shortboard and Bella Faircloth won the Womens Pro Shortboard. In the Girls 14 & Under final, Clark held off Jewel Evans by 0.56, with Saydee Stiles third. 2nd Annual Thompson Brothers Classic

Jacksonville Beach Pier · August 29, 2026 · community contest and fundraiser

The second running of the Thompson brothers’ contest filled seven divisions at the Jacksonville Beach Pier, with Sunrise Surf Shop and the surfers in the water raising money for the Live for Today Foundation. The format gave every entrant two heats and no eliminations, scoring two best waves combined. St. Augustine’s Benji Lange put up the highest total of the day, a 16.77 that took Juniors by 2.34, and Daniel Calloway was next with a 16.20 in Open Mens. Ansley West finished fourth and Maggie Demsey fifth in Open Womens, behind winner Bethany Zelasko. The seven division winners then met in the King of the Classic, and Lange won that too, closing out the day with both titles.

Super Girl Surf Festival Oceanside

Oceanside Pier, California · August 21–23, 2026 · WSL QS 4,000

The Super Girl series marked its 20th anniversary in Oceanside, and the First Coast was in the thick of it. Atlantic Beach’s Lanea Mons won her Round of 32 heat Saturday to reach Finals Day, then took her Round of 16 bout before her run ended in the Quarterfinals — an equal-5th finish worth 1,900 points that vaults her fourteen spots to No. 12 in the North America rankings. Ansley West battled through the Round of 112 into the Round of 96, where her weekend ended in equal 65th with her first points of the season. Daytona Beach’s Alana Lopez — a regional listing, one week removed from winning the Garabito Surf City Pro in Costa Rica — went out in the Round of 32 for equal 17th and sits at No. 5 in North America, while New Smyrna Beach’s Auburn Hilley won early before bowing out in the Round of 64 for equal 33rd. Mons also spent Day 1 mentoring young surfers alongside Reid Van Wagoner in the WSL Rising Tides program.

Stop #1 — Salty Crew x NSB Inlet

New Smyrna Beach Inlet · August 15, 2026

The statewide club series opened at New Smyrna without First Coast representation — Jacksonville’s stake in the season begins when the tour reaches the Jax Beach Pier on November 21. In the south-division opener, Space Coast Board Riders won five of seven divisions and took the day going away, sweeping U14, 15–19, 20’s, 40’s and 50’s. NSB Board Riders answered in the 30’s and Open Women’s.

ESA North Florida Contest #1

Jacksonville Beach Pier · August 9, 2026

The Eastern Surfing Association’s North Florida district opened its season Sunday, August 9 at the Jacksonville Beach Pier, with seventeen divisions posting results on the day — several running as combined fields. Emerson Clark led the charge with four podium finishes, including wins in Junior Women and Womens Open Longboard, while Chris Hunt and Tim McIntyre each took home two division titles.

USA Surfing Junior Championships

Lower Trestles, California · June 16–20, 2026

The 2026 USA Surfing Junior Championships brought more than 250 of the country’s top junior surfers to Lower Trestles. First Coast surfers reached the national stage across multiple divisions, led by Atlantic Beach’s Lanea Mons (4th, Girls U18), with top-10 finishes from Skylar Miller, Ansley West, Hendrix Shaw, and Emerson Clark.
